What is Insomnia Animation open-air Festival? Why it is a unique experience?

Insomnia is a truly independent animation festival which takes place in the Russian countryside. It is located on a big and fantastically nice meadow surrounded by the forest, near the small river Ugra.

The competition program of the Festival was international since its first edition, but this year will be the first time when the festival invites foreign film directors to the event. So this year festival will be bilingual – Russian and English.

We show the animation competition on two huge screens during the nights. In case of rain we arrange big tents near the screens.

During the days you can enjoy other festival activities like lectures, live music concerts, performances, a craft market and art-installations. There is also a play zone for children with attractions and an animation program.

Cafes and tea-points are open round the clock, day and night. Vegetarians will not stay hungry either

Location of the Festival

The Festival is located in the Kaluga region, 3–4 hours by bus from Moscow. The closest town to the open-air location is Ukhnov (about 10 km).

How many people come to the Festival?

Well, last edition there were about 6 000 visitors. You can see photos of previous editions on our web: http://insomniafest.ru/en/media-archive/2017–2/

The 24-hours safety and accomodation

The safety of the visitors is one of the basic priorities of the Festival.

A professional 24-hours first-aid post works on the territory of the Festival. There is also a police station that ensures safety.

No wild bears in this area since 1912 :-).

In case anyone is lost or needs help, the Festival has a round the clock Info centre with English speaking volunteers, where you can get any kind of information and support. There is a free wifi point, a telephone, charging facilities for your devices (on a paid basis).

What kind of accommodations do we have?

Insomnia is both a culture and nature experience! Everyone at the festival lives in tents.

There are separate camping areas:

  • quiet area for families with children,
  • animators camping area,
  • visitors camping ares.

Every camping area has its own toilets, water for hand and face washing, a fireplace with firewood.

You can also visit a Russian banya setting on the river bank.
